Description

This is a unique opportunity to join a new start-up energy efficiency company focused on commercial and industrial lighting applications. We are looking for a hands-on engineering director to drive the release of HID Labs product line to the commercial market. You will use your proven experience and expertise in hardware systems engineering to manage the product lifecycle from design through production launch. The Engineering Director will lead the engineering team through the development of HID Labs’ products, build and maintain a culture of urgency, and collaborate with a cross-functional team to deliver the product roadmap.

We are looking for an engineering leader who understands the development of embedded systems with analog and digital systems, where we are today, and focus for the future. The challenges in this role are developing a highly efficient hardware engineering team, managing supplier relationships, and delivering products on-time.

Responsibilities

  • Specification and management of the product lifecycle, including all engineering deliverables from conceptualization thru product launch.
  • Functional responsibility for all engineering activities including schedules, staffing, budgeting, planning.
  • Overall responsibility for the release schedule for new product availability.
  • Work with senior management to communicate status and insure projects are running on-track with respect to committed delivery dates.
  • Management and negotiation of contracts required for development.
  • Collaborate with marketing to investigate and specify new products for engineering release.

Required Skills

  • Ability to plan and execute against aggressive engineering schedules.
  • Understanding all aspects of the engineering product lifecycle from specification, design, validation and release to production.
  • Familiar with best practices in the design and development of embedded hardware systems.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with others across functional organizations.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with emphasis on influencing people and building relationships are required.

Professional Experience

  • 10+ years of hands on industry experience in building engineering teams that deliver products to the commercial marketplace.
  • Proven technical capability in the design and development of advanced embedded systems.
  • Ability to successfully run engineering projects including managing resources, hiring, staffing, budgeting, and managing a team thru product launch.
  • The ideal candidate has a track record of setting clear priorities, motivating his team and driving a culture of innovation, openness and execution throughout his organization.
  • Strong team leadership and the ability to execute on multiple programs concurrently.

Education

  • Bachelors degree in electrical engineering, masters degree preferred.
